A Lesson in Hospital Politics

When I got a phone call from a patient who wanted me to consult on her case, I decided it was time for me to go back to work.  Although I half expected to be reprimanded by Patrick upon my arrival, I had no idea that the new senior staff, Dr. Ford, would order me to leave the premises.  Patrick later told me that Dr. Ford was vying for Alan’s job as Chief of Staff, but clearly the man lacks all of Alan’s qualities.  The worst thing that could happen to GH is to be overseen by someone who cares more about hospital politics than patients.  It looks like I might have to table the vacation plans for a little while longer until things settle down at work.

Robin, I really liked the way you brought up Alan today. Patrick really gave Dr. Ford a piece of his mind. I wish you would let Patrick take care of you. You need him. You have been alone for too long and need someone to stand up for and take care of you. Patrick will fight to the end of the world if you let him, so let him.

Robin, take a chill pill and relax while you can. Before you know it, you will be very busy at work again with hardly any time to wipe your behind.

Angela

Robin, Alan was a wonderful Chief of Staff and he truly cared for his patients and the people he worked with, as much as running the hospital. He will be hard to replace. Dr. Ford may be a good doctor, but I think someone with more compassion would be a better choice for General Hospital. Why not suggest to Patrick's dad, Noah, that he should go for Chief of Staff. I'm sure Noah would have the full support of Patrick and even Monica. Noah is a great doctor and surgeon and he cares about his patients very much. Why don't you and Patrick suggest it to him?

I don't like Dr. Ford and I don't think he deserves to be chief of staff. Not only is he abrasive and insensitive, but he hasn't even been at GH that long. He doesn't know anything about the people who work there, at least not the important things. I respected your decision to be the bigger person today.

Kelly

Robin, Dr. Ford was right! You had no business being there except for getting your stiches out. You are also right in the fact that the good Dr. Ford could learn to be more friendly to other doctors. I think that the hospital could use a good shake up by having Dr. Ford as the new chief of staff!

Taylor

I don't think Dr. Ford should be chief of staff, Monica deserves it. But in the end, I think Dr. Ford will be in the position.

Jess

Robin, I understand your concern with the hospital politics, but don't put your vacation and recovery on hold because of them. You deserve some R&R time alone with Patrick, and I'm sure when you get back, the hospital politics will still be there. The jerk Dr. Ford, will still be trying to get the chief of staff position, and I'm sure Monica and Alan would both rather you take care of yourself now and put your vacation and your recovery with Patrick first.

Jocelyn

Girl, what are you saying? You need to allow yourself to get better and to celebrate your life with Patrick. I am not saying to ignore what is going on at the hospital. But remember that Patrick was the one who reminded you to enjoy life, and a vacation sounds like a great start!

tammy

No! Robin, you and Patrick deserve some time to yourselves. After everything you have been through, it is time for a little away and romance time. Take the time and enjoy the second chance that you and Patrick have together.

Oh, snap. This cannot be happening. Book those flights to Fiji or some other locale in the south Pacific and get your brain in gear to scour that hospital for somebody else to lead the staff. Robin, you are a multi-tasker, you can do it. No one will be able to fill Alan Quartermaine's shoes exactly but there has to be somebody, maybe right under your nose that is up to the job. Whatever happens, don't unpack your vacation suitcase or plans based on GH craziness or you and Patrick will never get out of town.

Kelly

Don't ever back down from Dr. Ford. He is not your doctor and has no rights to look at your records or personal file, so blast him.

Jim

I don't know how to tell you this Robin, but I have a bad feeling that this new senior staff Dr. Ford is bad news. This Dr. Ford will make the whole hospital staff like soldiers. If Dr. Ford takes the position as Chief of Staff, it will be a bad place for the whole General Hospital. I don't know if you going back to work at the hospital will do any good. You are recovering from your gunshot wound, and I don't think it's a good idea for you to go back to work in your condition. If I were you, I would go on vacation and let Dr. Monica Quartermaine deal with this situation.

Mari

Robin, I think you should table any plans you have with Patrick altogether, at least until he can prove himself as a guy who will stick with you, like you've proven you'll stick with him. I'm sorry, I still don't think you can trust him. And he wasn't all that supportive when you, while still in recovery, were having to go up against Dr. Ford today. Monica stuck up for you more than he did. Just don't trust your heart completely to him, not yet.

Kelly

You should have kicked that jerk Dr. Ford in the balls to put him in his place. Wait until your stitches heal first!

Amy

I would be mad if that happened where I worked. I understand you need more time, but if the new chief of staff is lacking patience, then you can tell right there that he has no business being the new chief of staff. Someone who cares about patients and not so much about the politics, that's who needs to be the chief of staff.
